The Heart Covets All That is Beautiful, 2015

The show's title is a translation from Arabic of the graffiti scribed on the gallery's exterior. STA Gallery is located in a former vegetable store off the historic Ha'aliya Market in the southern part of Tel Aviv. The area is going through controversial gentrification process and is home to decaying architecture, foreign workers, asylum seekers, low income families as well as young Israelis. It includes a draped dining table and five photographs.

The floral bouquet of scented herbs and medicinal plants, (plants such as Ruta chalepensis, myrtle and basil, are grown in the back yards of many Arab-Jews (Mizrahi) in Israel, often used for traditional rituals as well as for domestic mundane use.), are similar to the the ones I remember my grandmothers had made for the Sabbath.
The printed images are installed around a golden oilcloth draped dining table, echoing a family settings, my family setting of two parents, three brothers and a sister.
